About Adult Education

Trinity has always helped new arrivals learn English.  Our classes specifically support beginner level students, many of whom find a community setting less intimidating than a college campus.
The adult education classes at Trinity offer basic literacy skills and are open to the local community. There are currently 50 students a week attending our classes and additional members of staff have been employed in order to meet the growing demand.

ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages)

We now offer ESOL at various entry levels  - Pre-Entry, Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3.  There are 2 classes daily Monday to Thursday.  Learners are continually monitored and assessed to chart their progress.

IT Classes

The programme offers an IT component in partnership with Newham Libraries which enables students to learn skills including understanding the internet and basic word processing.  Classes take place every Tuesday morning and afternoon at East Ham Library.

Roma Literacy Support

We provide a programme of literacy and numeracy for young Roma adults who have not had access to mainstream education.

Citizenship Classes

We offer citizenship classes to students on the ESOL programme and run short intensive courses for non-ESOL students to help them to pass the Life in the UK test.  The classes have an IT component which provides students with a navigation tutorial to introduce the test to those students who are not computer literate.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Our extra-curricular activities are an integral part of our education programme.  These have included a project called ‘Walk of Faiths’ which involved visiting places of worship of the five main religions represented in the group.  A Recycling Project taught students the correct way to recycle using recycling bags provided by Newham Council.  These projects help students to develop friendships and understand and participate in their community more actively by giving them the confidence to develop their language skills.

Library

Our Graded Readers Library is now open to the public in addition to our ESOL students in order to encourage those with basic English to read for pleasure and improve their language skills.

Counselling

Confidential counselling is available for women who attend our Adult Eduaction Classes.
