Dost (friend) helps separated children develop positive minds, rebuild their lives and become active participants in their communities.
Most separated children have survived traumatic experiences both in their countries of origin and during the dangerous journey to safety. They arrive in the UK alone, in a state of shock and confusion. As children subject to immigration control they have to navigate a complex, legal and highly bureaucratic asylum system alone while trying to cope with feelings of fear and worry for those left behind, anxiety about the future and grief for all that has been lost.
The Dost model has been developed over 10 years in response to the needs of separated children living in London. We advocate for the child’s best interests and ensure their voices are heard.
We provide social and emotional well-being support for separated children and young people aged 11 - 25.
We share our knowledge and experience with professionals in the field to enable them to meet the needs of separated children.
We engage the wider community in the issues that affect separated children in order to influence positive and lasting changes in policy and practice.
