Women's rights activist visits Trinity Centre
10 May 2009
Trinity welcomes Krishnammal Jagannathan, the founder of LAFTI and a most remarkable woman. LAFTI (Land for Tillers’ Freedom) is a charitable organisation devoted to raising the social status of the Dhalit caste (so called ‘untouchables’) in India. Krishnammal has dedicated 60 years of her life to Ghandian ideas of equality and justice and has won many national and international awards for her service to humanity, most recently the Opus Prize from the University of Seattle, USA and the Right Livelihood Award (termed the alternative Noble Prize) in Sweden.
